Full, dark brown morocco leather, with a blind-stamped design on both boards, and small red flowers on-laid in the corners of the front. Raised bands with green leather title and author labels on the spine. Bright gilt flowers in the spine panels between the labels. Hasselquist was a student of the renowned Swedish botanist and ecologist Linnaeus. He traveled to Palestine, Syria, Cyprus, Rhodes and Chios to investigate the plants and natural history of the Levant, and he was the first to do so systematically. He died at Smyrna in 1752. His work was edited and published by Linnaeus posthumously in Swedish, as Iter Palaestinum, in 1757. This is the first edition in English A prior owner attempted to make an index on the preliminary pages before the half title. Paper is a bit age toned, but no foxing.
