Subtitled, "Illustrated y Sixty Engravings: With Explanations in English and French". The author was Major of His Majesty's (Late) 102d Regiment. This is the rare first edition in a contemporary , full deep red morocco leather with elaborate gilt designs along the edges of both boards, and gilt dentilles on the inside edges. Gilt lined raised bands on the spine with bright gilt lettering , and gilt designs in the spine panels. All edges gilt. The spine has been rebacked with fresh, healthy red leather and the original backstrip laid down on top. Original marbled endpapers, with an antique book plate without the prior owner name. Inside the 60 hand colored aquatints are by J. Dudley after Pu-Qua of various Chinese, depicting them at their jobs and social status. All plates have the original tissue guards, so offsetting is minor, as are occasional spots. The plates are finely colored and very good, measuring 13 3/4 by 10 1/4. A scarce, fine volume, in remarkable condition for its 200 plus years.
