Contemporary 3/4 brown calf spine and corners with raised bands on the spine, elaborate gilt decoration in the spine panels and a dark brown title label with bright gilt title and author letters. Very slight wear at the edges of the leather . Marbled boards and matching marbled page edges. Inside, a few spots and soiling, but no foxing. Book plate on the inside board says presented to the Lens Institute, Auchland in 1912. No other library or institute letters or pockets, but two light and indecipherable stamps at the bottom of pages. This is a classic British study of the Afghan people and culture, by the medical officer of a political mission that was led by Major Lumsden. Needless to say, not all fghans welcomed the foreigners. A Great read, especially as the American military presence in Afghanistan drags on..
