Original dark green cloth with a gilt elephant and riders on the front with a large gilt title, and the gilt title repeated on the unfaded spine. Slight edgewear and I think the spine top has been skillfully repaired. There is definitely a repair to the internal hinges, with blacck tape barely visible on the black endpapers. Inside, exceptionally clean. Plenty of tiger and other hunting here, but also life in India soon after the 1857 Mutiny, military life, observations on Indian treatment of women, cultures, racial antipathy, etc. A fine memoir of the time.
