Original dark green cloth with a gilt "Royal Red Cross" (metal awarded to the author by Queen Victoria) on the front and bright gilt title on the spine. Some wear at the edges and along the hinges, with a half inch split at the bottom corner. Wear too at the spine ends, and a smudge at the top of the front board where something might have been pasted on. Inside, Original endpapers are cracked at the hinges, but holding nicely. Inside, no foxing or browning. The author's husband Frank was assigned to this lovely hill station as politicl agent. There young Ethel lived happily until the Mutiny of 1857 broke out. It is a stirring tale, well told by an intrepid woman. Quite wondrous that she lived through it. A nice copy despite the binding flaws, and now protected in a clear, mylar dust jacket.
