He describes the islands, varieties of animals and plants, and the peoples. Original green cloth with a gilt orang-utan on both front covers, and bright gilt titles on the spines. Very slight edgewear. Beautiful inside, with no foxing or browning. Inside hinges are cracked, but strong, and now reinforced with a clear, mylar sleeve around the bindings. Stated second edition, same year as the first edition. "On the basis of artistic format, literary style and scientific merit, this is clearly one of the finest scientific travel books ever written".
