Very nice original red cloth, with very slight edge wear and fresh black title on both unfaded spines. Mild foxing here and there throughout both volumes. The author was a poet essayist and translator, a major figure of French Romanticism (wikipedia). He spent a year in 1842 wandering in Egypt (most of volume one), then on to Beirut and Constantinople (volume two). Originally published in 1846 as Voyage to the Orient. An excellent read as an example of mid 19th Century French orientalism. SCARCE
