Lady Burton was not unbiased about the life of her husband, and took some of the nasty bits out of her telling. But she also knew a great deal about him and this remains a primary source. Two volumes beautifully bound in red morocco spine and corners, with red cloth boards.Raised bands and gilt lettering on the spine, slight edgewear. Marbled endpapers and top edges gilt. Inside, very clean and tight, with some foxing only on pages bordering the endpapers. See Penzer page 308. All illustrations and maps present, as called for, including two color lithographs. A very nice set of a scarce title. A small tag notes this was the book of William Eddy who famously set up and translated the meeting between President Roosevelt and Kins Saud, of Saudi Arabia, in 1945 on an American warship in the Red Sea. After the war, Col. Eddy was an important figure in establishing American dominance of the new oil business in Arabia.
