The content is a mix of poetry, essays and fiction. Authors are mostly women, including Mrs. E.S. Swift, Miss E.W. Barnes, Mrs. Julia Dore, JMrs L.H. Sigourney, Mrs J.J. Williams, Mary Young, Caroline May , Alice Carey and Caroline Eustis , among others. Pages 312. Original full black leather, with gilt lines and elaborate Victorian design on both boards, title blindstamped on the front cover, and in bright gilt on the ornately decorated gilt spine. Some edgewear. All edges gilt, and a fine example of American mid 19th Century binding. Overall very good plus. Hinges tight, and no foxing inside.
