Original 3/4 brown morocco on marbled boards with matching endpapefull brown calf with gilt lines and flowers on both boards and silk doublures inside with gilt dentilles along the inside edges. Raised bands and bright gilt title on the spine. All edges gilt. A satirical temperance story , with Stanelaus a pseudonym for the author. A fine binding by George A. Zabriskie who was president of the New York City Historical Society at this time. He sent his bindings to select friends, from about 1934 to at least 1951. He was a skilled binder, one of his hobbies in addition to be being a Pillsbury Flour executive. This copy as new inside, with slight edge wear to the outside. This signed copy (GAZ on the inside front board, was inscribed to Dr & Mrs Murphy, but perhaps was never sent. This copy comes from a collection of a member of the Zabriskie family. He donated a collection of his bindings to the N.Y. Historical Society, where they still reside. Cohn 774, Douglas 5048
